Mitch Marsh likely to miss 1st Test vs Pakistan: Justin Langer told me I'm an idiot

Australia all-rounder Mitchell Marsh fractured his right hand after punching a wall in the dressing room during a Sheffield Shield match last week.

Australia all-rounder Mitchell Marsh will miss the first Test against Pakistan due to a fractured right hand, which is a self-inflicted injury caused by punching a wall. Last week Marsh injured his bowling hand after punch a wall in the Western Australian team's dressing room.

Mitch Marsh was playing a Sheffield Shield game for Western Australia against Tasmania and drove a return catch to Jackson Bird in the opening over of the last day to fall for 53. 

Marsh was so angry at himself that he punched a hole in the wall of the team's dressing room. Scans revealed a fracture, and an apologetic Marsh said he faced up to six weeks on the sidelines which rules him out of the opening Test against Pakistan in Brisbane starting on November 21. 

"It certainly will be an isolated incident... it won't be happening again. It's a good lesson for me, hopefully it's a good lesson for other people as well. "It's my middle finger, just below the wrist -- a fracture straight through the bone," Marsh, who was sporting a cast on his arm, told reporters. 

Marsh recently made a successful return to the Australian Test team during the Ashes in England and played the final Test in which he picked his maiden five-wicket haul, returning with 7 wickets in the match along with scores of 17 and 46 in a losing cause. Australia though, retained the Ashes after the series was drawn 2-2.

"At the end of the day it's a game of cricket. Sometimes you get beaten, you get out, and you can't be punching walls. As a captain, I've done a lot of work in setting a good example on and off the field over the last 18 months since I took over. 

This is a small hiccup for me," Marsh said. Marsh was recalled to Australia's test side for the final Ashes match against England last month and national coach Justin Langer has been in touch with him. "He just told me I'm an idiot basically. He was disappointed for me. 

Just the feeling of letting your team mates down and not being able to be a part of the journey for the next four to six weeks, that was the point I wanted to stress to the lads, that I was sorry," said Marsh, the son of former Australia opener Geoff Marsh.
