Harshdeep Kaur collaborates with industry stalwarts to pay tribute to Guru Nanak Dev

Harshdeep Kaur has composed a Shabad, a musical tribute, to Guru Nanak Dev ji on his 550th birth anniversary. The singer has brought her industry colleagues together to sing and feature in this music video; a first-of-its-kind collaboration. It features Shaan, Salim Merchant, Shankar Mahadevan, Shekhar Ravjianii, Jaspinder Narula, Richa Sharma, Neeti Mohan, Kapil Sharma, Harshdeep and Sukshinder Shinda.

It’s not often that so many iconic musicians come together for a religious project and that is wat makes this all the more special. It also creates an incredible opportunity to generate awareness about Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s teachings during his 550th birth anniversary across all faiths.

Talking about it Harshdeep shares, “We are traditionally, a very religious Punjabi family and we have been wanting to celebrate the historical 550th Birth Anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev ji this year, in November. So, my husband Mankeet and I, decided to do something as a humble tribute to commemorate this significant date. I then started composing something for this occasion. Then came the lyrics and I made sure that they were very simple and hummable. My aim was to compose something celebratory. With this goal and theme in mind, while I was in the midst of completing the song, I realised that this can’t be just about me."

She adds,"I wanted to take this song to the entire world and for that to happen, I needed diverse familiar voices and personalities to be a part of this melody. That’s how it got bigger and everyone came on board magically, as if there was some divine intervention. I reworked on the music keeping in mind all the artistes and their unique voices. I added aalaaps, adlibs, harmonies, etc so that each artiste gets to sing in their best style. One thing led to another and we decided to not just leave it as a musical piece and shot a video with all of us in it together. The end product is so beautiful and so full of devotion and I am blessed that all these legendary singers are part of this Shabad titled, ‘Satguru Nanak Aaye Ne’. I am sure audiences will also connect with it, as much as we did while putting it together.”
