Papon’s latest track is with Midival Punditz

Electronica legends Midival Punditz recently released Purvayi, an autumnal earworm.

It is the last one of the three-song series. For this track, Purvayi, the Punditz teamed up with their long-time trusted collaborator and touring mate Papon. This Bollywood playback singer from Assam, is popular for many Hindi movie songs like Mujhe Kaise Pata Na Chala, Moh Moh Ke Dhaage and Bulleya among many others.

Purvayi, takes inspiration from Assamese folk music and nature. The word Purvayi itself means ‘Easterly Winds’ and the song has an old school nostalgic feel to it with melodic drum and bass interwoven with the blissful folk vocals of Papon.

“Sun ree Purvayi, Kaho des tu jaye… Pi ko dekhan jee chahey”. O, easterly wind, which ever land you blow to, pls take tell my beloved, I yearn to see him/her. Remixes of each of the singles by an amazing set of artistes from across the world, such as Gaudi, Blot!, Komorebi and Curtain Blue follow each release.

Gaudi, from the UK has contributed to productions, collaborations, song-writing and remixes for acts including The Orb, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Bob Marley, David Gilmour, Scissor Sisters, and Trilok Gurtu.

The Delhi-based duo of Gaurav Raina and Tapan Raj, Midival Punditz, are a global brand, and undoubtedly also among the pioneers of the electronic music wave in our country.

Purvayi is about a heady dose of Indian folk and classical elements in their signature electronic music mould. Gaurav and Tapan are back on the map post a break with three singles this year. Each of these songs have a unique sound. The duo have mixed folk and Sufi sounds with their distinct touch.
