'You can't make MS Dhoni': Rishabh Pant trolled for poor showing vs Bangladesh

India wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant, who had a forgettable night on Sunday during the 1st T20I vs Bangladesh was trolled heavily on social media as calls to replace him grew louder.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Bangladesh beat India by 7 wicket on Sunday
  • Rishabh Pant hit just 3 fours in a knock of 27 runs
  • Pant was also involved in the run-out of Shikhar Dhawan
After India fell to their first-ever loss to Bangladesh in a T20I in Delhi on Sunday, fans started blasting wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant for a forgettable night. Pant, who is known for his big-hitting, failed to get going with the bat scoring 27 runs off 26 balls and was also involved in a mix-up with the well-set Shikhar Dhawan, that cost the latter his wicket.

Later, during Bangladesh's chase, Pant was unsure about going for a DRS review for a couple of Yuzvendra Chahal deliveries which rapped Player of the Match Mushfiqur Rahim on the pads, early on in his innings. Replays showed that the ball would have gone on to hit the stumps if the call had been taken. Pant's troubles didn't end here though.

Soon afterward, Pant did convince Rohit Sharma to go for DRS on another instance, when he thought that Soumya Sarkar had nicked one into his gloves. However, the DRS replays showed no spike whatsoever when the ball passed Sarkar's bat as India lost their sole review. This was enough for the numerous social media users to call out Pant.

While some pointed to him lacking wicketkeeping skills, others flayed him for his below-par batting performances so far in his short white-ball career. In turn many started being reminded of veteran wicketkeeper MS Dhoni, whose skills behind the wickets and in front are already the stuff of legends.
